Job Postings Increase Across Ohio, in Eastern Region
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The number of job openings in statewide and regional labor markets increased between September and October, according to OhioMeansJobs.
In Eastern Ohio’s four-county region – which covers Mahoning, Columbiana, Trumbull and Ashtabula counties – 7,345 jobs were posted on OhioMeansJobs.com between Sept. 14 and Oct. 13, the agency reported.
That’s an increase of 128 advertisements posted from the prior reporting period and a 1,099 increase from a year ago.
Statewide, the number of job openings over the period reached 205,583, an increase of 1,601 from a month ago. The latest job openings represent an increase of 34,194 from the same period a year ago.
Regionally, most jobs are middle income, 33.5%, and upper middle income, 28.4%; followed by entry-level jobs, 15.6%; high-income jobs, 11.6%; and six-figure jobs, 10.9%. Most jobs, 48.9%, require a GED or high school diploma, followed by 26.4% requiring a bachelor’s degree. Only 17.6% of openings request at least an associate’s level degree, 3.7% a doctoral degree and 3.4% a master’s degree.
The top jobs sought in the region are registered nurses at 830; heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers, 486; first-line supervisors of retail sales workers, 386; first-line supervisors of food preparation and serving workers, 168; and customer service representatives, 150.
Statewide, most jobs are middle income, 26.9%, and upper middle income, 26.4%; followed by six-figure jobs, 24.9%; high-income jobs, 12.1%; and entry-level jobs, 9.8%. Most jobs require at least a GED or high school diploma, 39.6%; while 36.1% require a bachelor’s degree, 17.2% an associate’s degree, 4% a doctoral degree and 3.1% a master’s degree.
The top jobs with advertisements across the state are registered nurses at 14,856; heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers, 10,127; first-line supervisors of retail sales workers, 7,233; retail salespersons, 7,099; and stockers and order fillers, 4,121.
