Job Postings Increase Across Ohio, in Northeast Region
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The number of job openings in statewide and regional labor markets increased between March and April, according to OhioMeansJobs.
In Northeast Ohio’s 18-county region – which covers Mahoning, Columbiana and Trumbull counties – 61,143 jobs were posted on OhioMeansJobs.com between March 14 and April 13, the agency reported.
That’s an increase of 3,744 advertisements posted from the prior reporting period and a 9,477 increase from a year ago.
Statewide, the number of job openings over the period reached 190,055, an increase of 11,961 from a month ago. The latest job openings represent an increase of 26,248 from the same period a year ago.
Regionally, most jobs are middle income, 30.7%, and upper middle income, 28%; followed by entry-level jobs, 16.6%; six-figure jobs, 15.2%; and high-income jobs, 9.6%. Most jobs, 46.3%, require a GED or high school diploma, followed by 31.3% requiring a bachelor’s degree. Only 13.9% of openings request at least an associate’s level degree, 4.1% a doctorate and 2.4% a master’s degree.
The top jobs sought in the region are registered nurses at 3,442; first-line supervisors of retail sales workers, 3,327; retail salespersons, 2,849; heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers, 1,970; and first-line supervisors of food preparation and serving workers, 1,218.
Statewide, most jobs are middle income, 28.5%, and upper middle income, 27.9%; followed by six-figure jobs, 18.1%; entry-level jobs, 15.1%; and high-income jobs, 10.4%. Most jobs require at least a GED or high school diploma, 45.9%; while 34.2% require a bachelor’s degree, 13.4% an associate’s degree, 4% a doctoral degree and 2.5% a master’s degree.
The top jobs with advertisements across the state are first-line supervisors of retail sales workers, 8,741; registered nurses with 8,521; retail salespersons, 7,360; heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers, 6,703; and stockers and order fillers, 3,636.
