Job Postings Increase Across Ohio, in Northeast Region

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The number of job openings in statewide and regional labor markets increased between November and December, according to OhioMeansJobs.

In Northeast Ohio’s 18-county region – which covers Mahoning, Columbiana and Trumbull counties – 58,816 jobs were posted on OhioMeansJobs.com between Nov. 14 and Dec. 13, the agency reported.

That’s an increase of 4,316 advertisements posted from the prior reporting period and a 8,078 decrease from a year ago.

Statewide, the number of job openings over the period reached 177,246, an increase of 11,813 from a month ago. The latest job openings represent a decrease of 25,553 from the same period a year ago.

Regionally, most jobs are middle income, 30.2%, and upper middle income, 26.8%; followed by entry-level jobs, 16.2%; six-figure jobs, 15.6%; and high-income jobs, 11.1%. Most jobs, 47.5%, require a GED or high school diploma, followed by 31.1% requiring a bachelor’s degree. Only 15.5% of openings request at least an associate’s level degree, 3.4% a doctorate and 2.5% a master’s degree.

The top jobs sought in the region are registered nurses at 3,502; retail salespersons with 2,844 ads; first-line supervisors of retail sales workers with 2,766 postings; heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers, 1,981; and stockers and order fillers, 1,192.

Statewide, most jobs are middle income, 29.3%, and upper middle income, 26.4%; followed by six-figure jobs, 18.3%; entry-level jobs, 13.8%; and high-income jobs, 12.2%. Most jobs require at least a GED or high school diploma, 45.4%; while 34.2% require a bachelor’s degree, 14.3% an associate’s degree, 3.6% a doctoral degree and 2.5% a master’s degree.

The top jobs with advertisements across the state are registered nurses with 8,765; retail salespersons, 7,659; first-line supervisors of retail sales workers, 7,372; heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers, 6,395; and stockers and order fillers, 3,791.
