Jobless Claims Continue Downward Trend

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – New jobless claims filed by Ohioans during the week ended September 10 fell compared to the previous week. At the same time, continued unemployment claims ticked down, according to data released this morning from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

Ohioans filed 5,954 new traditional unemployment claims last week, a decrease of 726 claims filed the previous week. 

Initial jobless claims are down more than 3,000 since the end of September, when the number of weekly claims stood at 9,254.

Continued jobless claims stood at 27,780 for the week, a decrease of 277 claims, ODJFS said.

Ohio’s unemployment rate in July was 3.9% compared to the national unemployment rate of 3.5%. 

Ohio’s labor force participation rate in July was 61.9%, while the national labor force participation rate for the month stood at 62.1%.
