Johnson Gives Norfolk Campaign Donations to East Palestine Firefighters
EAST PALESTINE, Ohio – U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson has been in the village for days touring the site of the train derailment and working with officials navigating the situation.
On Tuesday, Johnson, of Marietta, R-6, announced he is donating $18,000 – money contributed by the Norfolk Southern PAC to his campaign through the years – to the East Palestine Firefighters Association.
In a news release, Johnson said the East Palestine Firefighters Association lost a lot of its equipment during the disaster response, and the money is a first step toward what the organization will need to replace it.
“The East Palestine firefighters have been working tirelessly to clean up and help rebuild the community,” Johnson said. “We’re in the fight with East Palestine for clear air, clear water and clear answers, and we want to help make sure that first responders have the support they need for the next call for help.”
Johnson also said anyone who wishes to contribute to the efforts can mail a check to the East Palestine Firefighters Association at P.O. Box 101, East Palestine, OH 44413.
