Junior Achievement Event Raises $67K for Financial Literacy
POLAND, Ohio – Junior Achievement of Eastern Ohio raised more than $67,000 at its fourth annual Swing Fore JA Golf Classic on July 29 at The Lake Club.
Proceeds will support financial literacy programming for students in Trumbull, Mahoning, Columbiana and Ashtabula counties.
Participants enjoyed skills games, prize holes and food trucks.
During the awards ceremony, a special presentation was made to Ivy Rath, a recent Victory Christian School graduate and this year’s recipient of the Michael J. Alexander Memorial Scholarship. Alexander, who died of cancer in 2022, was a past JAEO board member and supporter of youth financial education. The $1,000 award will help Rath continue her education at Liberty University, where she is pursuing a degree in English.
“To be able to recognize a deserving student by honoring an amazing person and advocate for youth financial literacy shows a generational commitment to owning your own financial success through hands-on education,” said Michele Merkel, JAEO president.
To be eligible for the scholarship, students must complete the JA Financial Literacy for Ohio course and write an essay explaining what financial literacy means to them.
Sponsors for the event included The Muransky Companies; Phantom Fireworks and the Youngstown Phantoms; Baird’s Tree Service; 898 Marketing; Exodus Industrial; TEAM Recovery; Columbiana Ford/Salem CDJR; 717 Credit Union; Ellwood Engineered Castings; HD Growth Partners and White Glove Payroll; and Stadium Superstore.
