Koenig Steps Down as COO of Mercy Health – Youngstown

Don Koenig, chief operating officer of Mercy Health – Youngstown, has decided to leave his position, Don Kline, regional chief executive officer, announced this week in a memo to employees. “As [he] approaches one of life’s milestones, this reflection has led Don and his wife Sherrie to look at their next chapter in life,” Kline explained. Koenig has served the Mercy Health system 20 years — the first 11 at the home office in Cincinnati and the last nine years in the Mahoning Valley. During his time here, he was instrumental in the construction and opening of the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center. Other accomplishments include the second patient tower at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital and the expansion and growth of high-risk obstetric care; development of a stroke and neurosciences institute and the opening of Mercy’s Heart, Lung and Vascular Institute.
