Lake to River Co-Op Partners with Catullo Meats
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — The Lake to River Food Cooperative and Catullo Prime Meats are joining together to increase access to local food for Mahoning Valley residents.
A kick-off event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 28 at the Catullo store on Tiffany Boulevard in Poland. Locally sourced food products will be available for sampling. These include fresh fruits and vegetables and hand-crafted artisan cheeses, all of which will be available for purchase through the Lake to RIver Food Cooperative.
“Our store is dedicated to growing the awareness of the wonderful, fresh agricultural products available from area farms. Supporting the farms and organizations like Lake to River is a natural next step to building a strong local food network,” said Danniel Catullo, owner of Catullo Prime Meats.
Beginning at the end of May, the Lake to River Food Co-op will host a weekly pick-up at Catullo Prime Meats for residents purchasing local foods from the Lake to River Online Market. Hundreds of products are available for purchase from a network of small farms and small food businesses based in six area counties. Products can be pre-ordered through the online market and delivered to customers’ preferred pick-up locations on a weekly basis.
“We welcome partnerships with businesses like Catullo’s who demonstrate a commitment to purchasing and selling locally grown foods, said the Food Co-op’s Gianna Cioffi. “Buying local enriches our community in so many ways and our Online Market strives to make that process as easy as possible.”
Lake to River currently hosts pick-up locations on Elm Street and in Howland Township for Valley residents interested in year-round access to locally sourced products.
The co-op is comprised of 35 farmers and value-added food entrepreneurs. It provides marketing, sales, aggregation and delivery of products including fruit, vegetables, pastured and conventionally raised meats, eggs, dairy products, granola, kale chips, nut butters and many more products available for purchase .
