Legal Creative to Hold Free Clinic for Artists Oct. 12
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Legal Creative will hold its second free Legal Clinic for Creatives from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 12, at the main branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, Denise Bayer announced Monday.
Bayer is founder and executive director of Legal Creative.
In 2013, Legal Creative began holding seminars throughout the year, however since then have found it more manageable to hold a clinic, Bayer said.
During the clinic, art professionals and arts organizations meet face-to-face with an attorney working pro bono for a half hour or hour. They must make an appointment beforehand.
“We just introduce the volunteer attorneys to the artist,” Bayer said, “and then if there’s any attorney- client relationship beyond that, it will be up to them to stay in contact.”
About 15 people were at the last clinic in May, she said.
Consultations are limited to matters related to running of an arts business, such as copyright law, trademark law, contract law and forming a business, about which earlier participants had many questions.
Legal Creative plans to have accountants available as well for related topics.
Legal Creative serves artists and arts organizations throughout Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana counties. The lawyers have helped organizations such as Students Motivated by the Arts (Smarts) and Artists of the Rustbelt among others.
A limited number of appointments remain available, and all artists must register before the clinic. Registration is free and open to all artists and arts organizations.
Artists can register online at www.legalcreative.org or emailing [email protected].
