Local Author Who Ignited Media Attention to Sign Books

SHARON, Pa. – Chelsea Banning will have a book signing event from 5:30 to 7 p.m. July 27 at The Wandering Soul: Books, Gifts & Furniture, 142 E. State St., downtown.

The Girard, Ohio, resident is the author of “Of Crowns and Legends.” She became a media sensation in December when she posted a TikTok message lamenting her poorly attended book signing event in Ashtabula. The message drew responses from many famous authors, including Stephen King, Neil Gaiman and Margaret Atwood. Many reposted her message and included stories of their own disappointments early in their careers.

The publicity helped boost sales of her book, Banning said.

“Of Crowns and Legends” is a fantasy novel and the first book in Banning’s “The Fight for Camelot” trilogy. It was published last summer.

Banning’s book signing is part of The Wandering Soul’s summer schedule of events.

The store, owned by Dani Johnson, is also expanding its class offerings and product line. At least 15 artists currently display and sell their work in the shop.

The store will have a book swap from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 2.

“Just show up with a book or two you are willing to part with and swap it for another one from someone else,” Johnson said. The event will include light snacks, and customers will receive a gift with every purchase.

The store is open from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.
