Local Auto Sales Climb Month Over Month; Down From Year Ago

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Residents of Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties purchased 5,211 new and used vehicles during March, a 43% gain from the previous month, according to data from the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association.

In February, the organization reported buyers in the region purchased 3,634 new and used vehicles.

Total sales in March were down 15% compared to March 2021, when the dealers association reported 6,139 new and used vehicles sold to Mahoning Valley residents.

Greenwood Chevrolet led local dealerships in new and used vehicle sales with 271. Rounding out the top five were Taylor Kia of Boardman with 239 sold, Sweeney Chevrolet with 229 sold, Fred Martin Ford with 225 sold, and Stadium Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac with 222 sold.

New vehicle sales stood at 2,392 units sold to Mahoning Valley customers during the month, a 27% drop versus March of 2021. That month, the dealers association reported sales of 3,282 new cars and trucks to Valley buyers.

Still, new vehicle sales in March improved from the previous month, posting a 31.7% gain from February, data show.

Sweeney Chevrolet and Taylor Kia led local dealers in new vehicle sales with 141 sold each; Greenwood Chevrolet sold 130 units; Kuflietner Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Boardman sold 109 units; and Stadium Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac sold 106 vehicles.
