Local Car Sales Slip in August

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Auto sales in the tri-county area were slightly off last year’s pace in August, as sales totaled 5,409, according to the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers Association, down 3.7%.

Dealerships in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties delivered 2,856 new cars to buyers last month, down from 3,156 a year ago. Used-car sales rose by 66 units to 2,446.

Leading local new-car sales was Greenwood Chevrolet, Austintown, with 188 sold, up 19 from August 2019. Following were Sweeney Chevrolet, Boardman, with 185, up one; Fred Martin Ford, Austintown, with 165, up 46; Boardman Subaru with 163, up seven; and Taylor Kia of Boardman with 135, up 20.

Taylor Kia topped the used-car sales chart with 134 sold, up 43 from a year ago. Also hitting triple digits were Greenwood Chevy with 111 and Sweeney Buick GMC, Boardman, with 100.

Among the auto dealers association’s 22-county footprint, Greenwood Chevrolet ranked fourth for combined new- and used-car sales with 315 vehicles sold in August. Sweeney Chevrolet ranked seventh with 289 sales, Taylor Kia eighth with 281 and Boardman Subaru 10th with 274. 

The top dealer among association members was Fred Martin Superstore, Norton, with 594 sales.
