Local Photographer Displays Pandemic Concert Art at Soap Gallery
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Throughout the month of January, Mollie Crowe, photographer and owner of Little Blackbird Photo, will present her first gallery show, “Playing to an Empty Room: A Visual Herstory of Live Music in a Lockdown,” at The Soap Gallery.
The exhibit features photographs Crowe took at Westside Bowl during the COVID-19 pandemic, when people were not allowed to attend live concerts.
“The story is not just about the bands. It’s about the venue,” Crowe says. “Independent venues didn’t have any sort of federal aid, and at that time 90% of them were projected to shut down indefinitely.”
