Local Teachers Join Holocaust Survivor on Trip to Poland
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — The Youngstown Area Jewish Federation sent three local teachers on the Classrooms Without Borders trip to Poland with a Holocaust survivor.
The three teachers, Grady Long, Barry Kimpel and Nanette Jacobs, shared what they took away from the experience.
“I think this will be a source of reflection for years to come,” said Long, a teacher at Crestview High School. “Immediately it’s going to be in my classroom, obviously when I talk about the Holocaust. But then, I think it’s also a larger wake up call; how to teach with empathy and how to reinforce democratic principles.”
