Local Unemployment Rates Rose in November

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Local unemployment rates rose around half a percentage point in November from the month before, the latest monthly data show.

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported this morning that the unemployment rate last month in Trumbull County was 6.0% and 5.7% in Mahoning County, each a half a point up from October, 5.5% and 5.2%, respectively. In Columbiana County, the November rate was 5.8%, up 0.6 of a point from October’s 5.2%.

Those percentages compare to year-ago figures of 5.9% in Trumbull County, 5.5% in Mahoning County and 5.3% in Columbiana County.

In Youngstown, November’s unemployment rate was 7.0%, up from 6.5% in October but down from November 2014’s 7.3%. Warren’s unemployment rate stood at 6.8% in November, up from 6.4% in October and slightly higher than November 2014’s reported 6.7%.

For the metropolitan statistical area covering Mahoning and Trumbull counties in Ohio and Mercer County in Pennsylvania, unemployment was at 5.6%, up from 5.2% the month before and from 5.5% in November 2014. The Ohio-only portion of the MSA reported unemployment at 5.8%, up from 5.3% in October and from 5.7% in November 2014.
