Lordstown Assembly Closing for Two Weeks

LORDSTOWN, Ohio – The General Motors Lordstown Assembly will shut down the weeks of April 25 and May 2 due to supply chain issues caused by recent earthquakes in Japan.

In a post on its Facebook page, United Auto Workers Local 1714 said the plant will be closed for one week, along with three other plants in Fairfax, Kan.; Spring Hill, Tenn.; and Oshawa, Ontario. The post also noted “a limited amount of members will be needed to work during this time.”

Tom Mock, communications manager for the plant, confirmed the temporary closure.

The plant, which assembles the Chevrolet Cruze, employs 4,500.

A representative from UAW Locals 1714 and 1112 were not immediately available for comment.
