Louth Publishes Article in Music Education Journal
An article written by Paul Louth, associate professor of music and coordinator of music education at Youngstown State University’s Dana School of Music, was published in the spring 2020 issue of Philosophy of Music Education Review. The title of the piece is “Emphasis and Suggestion versus Musical Taxidermy: Neoliberal Contradictions, Music Education, and the Knowledge Economy.” The article analyzes and reviews the creeping influence of standardization in music education practices. Louth argues that standardizing methods of teaching and testing actually work against helping students learn to think for themselves in the 21st century information economy. Louth is also writing a book on music education for Indiana University Press.
