Stewart’s Legacy Remembered at Business and Media Archives Center
In 1994, the Business & Media Archives of the Mahoning Valley was established as a non-profit organization to collect local broadcasting and media history.
Lowry A. Stewart, Youngstown native and grandson of Warren P. Williamson Jr., founder of WKBN Broadcasting Corporation, was vital in developing the archives and the vision of preserving artifacts and records that document the history of local broadcasting and media technology.
Stewart passed away unexpectedly at his home in Nevada at the beginning of 2020. Members of the Williamson and Stewart families contributed funds in his memory; those funds were added to an existing endowment fund to support BMAMV.
The Mahoning Valley Historical Society honored Stewart by rededicating the Business and Media Archives Center as the Lowry A. Stewart Business and Media Archives Center. A commemorative plaque was unveiled on the front of the building, tribute panels were installed in the entrance, and the exhibit in the meeting and research rooms was updated.
