Mahoning Auditor’s Office Honored for 2016 Financial Report

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Mahoning County has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association, the county auditor’s office announced.

Organizations are judged by a panel on the basis of “demonstrating a constructive spirit of disclosure to clearly communicate its financial story,” the association said in a release, as well as the work done to encourage people to read the report.

“The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting,” the Government Finance Officers Association said. “Its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.”

Nationwide, the association honored 4,231 organizations, ranging from state government agencies to school districts, out of its 19,000 members. In Ohio, 304 organizations were presented with the Certificate of Achievement, including 37 counties.
