Mahoning County ESC Changes Name to ESC of Eastern Ohio

CANFIELD, Ohio — The Mahoning County Educational Service Center has changed its name to the Educational Service Center of Eastern Ohio.

Founded in 1914 as a resource for Mahoning County schools, the ESC expanded its reach in 2003 when requirements around educational service centers allowed districts to align with service centers outside of their home counties, according to a press release. Since then, the ESC has served more than 25 districts in Mahoning, Columbiana, Trumbull and Portage counties, said Traci Hostetler, superintendent.

“We thought that it was time to acknowledge all of our districts in our name. We are still proudly located in Mahoning County,” Hostetler said in a press release. “We have a strong, innovative team. Our supports have extended far beyond Mahoning County for years. Nothing is changing except our name – we are still offering the same tailored, innovative services and dedicated staff … the new name simply provides a more accurate representation of the service area we have already established.”

The ESC of Eastern Ohio also launched an updated website at ESCEasternOhio.org. The website provides a calendar of professional development opportunities, social-emotional learning resources and additional resources, as well as information on Help Me Grow Early intervention programs.
