Mahoning Valley Auto Sales Down 3.4% in August
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Auto sales in the Mahoning Valley fell again in August as dealerships in the area sold 5,222 new and used vehicles, according to data from the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers Association, a 3.4% drop from a year ago.
The drop in sales marked the eighth consecutive month year-over-year sales have fallen in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties. For the association’s 22-county area, combined new and used sales were up 1.1%.
“With less than 1% between each year, we again are seeing a strong market,” said association President Louis Vitantonio in a release. “The fourth quarter will be a bit more difficult as passenger vehicle inventories are higher than normal.”
Overall, the 22-county area of the GCADA saw new-car sales fall 0.73% to 23,343.
New-car sales in the tri-county area were down 5.5% from August 2017, totaling 2,921. Leading local sales was Boardman Subaru, Boardman, with 188 new cars sold last month. Following were Greenwood Chevrolet, Austintown, 180; Sweeney Chevrolet, Boardman, 179; Stadium Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac, Salem, 172; and Fred Martin Ford, Austintown, 137.
Used-car sales in the area were up 1.7%, totaling 2,241 in August. Greenwood Chevrolet topped the used-car sales chart with 124 delivered to customers, one up from 123 a year ago.
For the entire membership of the auto dealers’ association, Greenwood Chevrolet ranked No. 3 for combined new and used sales with 312, followed by Boardman Subaru at No. 4 with 310.
