Vehicle Sales Up 3.9% in Mahoning Valley in October

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Car sales in the Mahoning Valley drove ahead ahead of last year’s levels as 6,473 new and used vehicles were sold last month, a 3.9% increase, according to the latest data from the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers Association.

In total, new-car sales were up 14.4% as 2,806 cars were sold last month in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties. Used cars were down slightly to 1,942 across the area, six fewer than a year ago.

“October sales continued an upward trend, heavily relying on truck and SUV sales,” said Louis A. Vitantonio, president of the GCADA, in the monthly sales report. “Northern Ohio consumers have made it clear their preference for trucks and SUVs as gas prices continue to remain low. Remaining 2017 models are being cleared out in anticipation of 2018s coming in.”

Sweeney Chevrolet, Boardman, led the region in sales of new vehicles with 201 delivered to customers, followed by Greenwood Chevrolet, Austintown with 183. Rounding out the top five were Toyota of Boardman with 136, Boardman Subaru with 121 and Columbiana Chevrolet Buick Cadillac with 120.

Greenwood led the area in used car sales with 116, the only dealership in the Mahoning Valley to hit triple digits.

Across the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers Association 17-county area, Greenwood was the No. 1 dealer for combined sales with 317. The only other dealer in the top five was Sweeney Chevrolet with 288.
