Postcard Art Show on Display at YSU

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Through Nov. 21, Bliss Hall at Youngstown State University is hosting the second annual High School Mail Art Show. The exhibit features postcard-sized artwork from 150 high school juniors and seniors from 16 school districts in northeastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania.

Sponsored by the YSU Department of Art, the show is free to view from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday in the Judith Rae Solomon Gallery. A one-hour opening reception and award ceremony will be held there at 5 p.m. Nov. 8.

Mail art began in the 1950s as a way for artists to send small-scale works through the U.S. Postal Service to connect with other artists and share their work away from the traditional art market.

Students created images on paper the size and thickness of a postcard using a variety of media and themes. The art will be judged by YSU art professors Claudia Berlinski and Christine McCullough.
