Making Monuments for More than 130 Years
WARREN, Ohio– In September 2020, Randy Miller and his wife purchased Warren Marble & Granite Co. from the Corbin family. Miller says the Corbin family started the business in 1890.
Today you can find the more than 130-year-old company at 823 Niles Road SE. However, its original location was on Market Street where the Horseshoe Bar is located today.
“They started there, from what I understand, because it had a livery stable in the back and that’s where they kept the horses,” Miller says. “They’d load the monuments onto a wagon and down they would come here to Oakwood Cemetery.”
While Miller just purchased Warren Marble & Granite last year, he has been around the monument business his entire life.
“My father when we were growing up did final date engraving on stones where you would go right to the cemetery after someone passed and add they’re final dates,” he says. “He would load my mom and my brother and my sister up and we’d go with him and, of course, play around in the cemetery while he was doing that. Then as I got older, I had an aunt and an uncle down in southern Ohio that had a monument shop and I would work for them during the summers.”
