MCCTC Event Raises Over $8K for Akron Children’s Hospital

CANFIELD, Ohio – The Mahoning County Career & Technical Center concluded its fifth year of the Mini Dance Marathon fundraising event for Akron Children’s Hospital, raising $8,852.

The fundraiser has brought in a total of $28,662 over the past five years.

The Mini Dance Marathon is part of the Miracle Network Dance Marathon movement, which supports Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising funds and awareness for more than 170 pediatric hospitals nationwide.

Students involved in planning the events at MCCTC gain leadership, teamwork and nonprofit business experience while actively contributing to the well-being of children’s hospital patients and their families.

“The Mini Dance Marathon has become a source of joy and purpose for both the students at MCCTC and myself,” said Jordan Miller, allied health and pre-nursing instructor at MCCTC. “We dance for the kids.”

The fundraiser was inspired by Miller, whose sister was the executive director of Guinathon, Youngstown State University’s dance marathon team. Seeking to extend the reach of the Miracle Network Dance Marathon movement, they aimed to involve local high schools, and MCCTC stepped up to participate. Since then, the collaboration has become a staple at the school, with students taking the reins in planning and executing the fundraising event.
