Meadville Medical to Acquire Local Steward Physician Practices
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Meadville Medical Center announced Wednesday it plans to acquire five physician practices in the Sharon, Pa., area from Steward Medical Group.
Although Meadville Medical Center has been working to acquire Sharon Regional Medical Center through negotiations related to Steward Health Care System’s bankruptcy, that has not transpired yet.
The preservation of the five physician practices in the region should mean uninterrupted medical access for thousands of Sharon-area patients.
The transaction with Steward Medical Group is anticipated to close around Jan. 1, according to a news release from Meadville Medical Center.
“I am thrilled to see Meadville Medical Center work so diligently to preserve these services in our communities,” said Pennsylvania state Sen. Michele Brooks, R-50th. “Losing these providers would have a significant negative impact on the thousands of patients they treat.”
The five practices are the Hubbard Medical Group, 880 W. Liberty St., Hubbard; Brookfield Internal Medicine, 7264 Warren-Sharon Road, Brookfield; Sharon Family Practice, 62 Strawbridge Ave., Sharon, Pa.; Hermitage Family Practice & Internal Medicine, 2425 Garden Way, Suite 102, Hermitage, Pa.; and Mercer Family Medical Center, 551 Greenville Road, Mercer, Pa.
“We are pleased with this transition as it keeps these excellent providers in our community and aligned with Sharon Regional Medical Center,” said Robert Rogalski, president of Sharon Regional Medical Center.
Though the names of the practices may change, along with new signage and possibly new phone numbers, there will be no change to the operations, the release states. Patients will receive information if the phone number for their doctor changes.
“We have worked as quickly as possible to get this deal done so patients didn’t see an interruption to their services,” said Gabrielle Pierce, vice president of physician services for Meadville Medical Center. “We look forward to partnering with these practices and their providers to continue offering primary care services in Mercer County and Ohio.”
