Meijer Store Chain Buys Former Austintown School
AUSTINTOWN TOWNSHIP, Ohio – The former Austintown Middle School at 5800 Mahoning Ave. has been sold for $2.6 million to a company that operates the Meijer store chain.
The sale was approved last night by the Austintown Local School Board.
According to Vincent Colaluca, district superintendent, Meijers plans to tear down the former middle school, built in 1916, and will have 180 days to investigate zoning or any problems that could prevent them from building on the property.
The board also sold the former Lloyd Elementary School property, 5700 Norquest Blvd, to OLOM Management, the company that operates the Austintown Plaza, for $115,000.
Said Colaluca in a prepared statement, “It looks like there’s a lot of money coming into the district, but the money for the properties can only be used to fund permanent school improvements. It cannot be used for daily school operations.
