Meranto Elected to Youngstown Board of Education
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Youngstown Board of Education this week appointed a new board member, Joe Meranto. After interviewing 11 candidates at a special board meeting, Meranto was voted in unanimously. His term has already begun, and if he wishes to remain on the board, he must run in the November 2023 general election.
“The board of education had an incredible pool of applicants, and we are so humbled by everyone’s interest and support,” says Tiffany Patterson, board president. “We selected Mr. Meranto for his longtime career in education and history with Youngstown City Schools.”
Meranto’s career in education spans 50 years. From 2017-2021 he was the superintendent of Youngstown City Schools. He was the executive director of Choffin Career and Technical Center for 14 years, from 2003-2017. Meranto has also worked as a high school and K-8 principal and teacher in parochial schools.
Meranto earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Youngstown State University. He is active in community organizations such as The Wolves Club, the YSU Alumni Association and the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber. He is a member of St. Anthony Church.
