Mercer County FCU Expands Charter to Surrounding Counties
HERMITAGE, Pa. – Mercer County Community Federal Credit Union has gotten approval to expand its charter to include the surrounding counties.
The National Credit Union Administration gave its approval to the Hermitage-based credit union to offer services in Crawford, Lawrence and Venango counties in Pennsylvania and Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties in Ohio.
“We’re very excited to welcome members from this expanded community and share the benefits of credit union membership,” said credit union CEO Sandi Carangi in a statement. “Our credit union will go from serving the Mercer County community of over 100,000 residents, to seven counties with over 800,000 people.”
In addition to the expansion of its charter, Mercer County Community Federal Credit Union is also upgrading its digital products, improving account opening, loan processing and online and mobile banking. Last year, Carangi told The Business Journal the two moves are closely connected.
“People from the surrounding counties can access their accounts. So they’re telling other people that they’re a member of our credit union. Those people could be in Trumbull County or Lawrence County while our field of membership was limited to Mercer County,” she said.
In October, Carangi said the credit union was seeing roughly 20,000 logins on its digital platforms.
“A lot of our members have embraced technology beyond our expectations,” she said at the time. “That’s a positive because they realize that no matter where they are, they have access to their credit union. [Before the pandemic] there were still a lot of members that didn’t know we had mobile banking.”
