Mercer County Food Bank Awarded $27K for Programs
SHARON, Pa. – Mercer County Food Bank was awarded $27,648 from the Community Foundation of Western PA & Eastern Ohio.
The funds will help support some of the food bank’s largest programs, including Mobile Pantry, designed to reach residents in underserved and rural areas of the county; School Pantry, a new initiative designed to provide daily access to food to children struggling with food insecurity; and Fill-A-Glass with Hope, a fresh fluid milk program.
“We are grateful for our partnership with the Community Foundation,” Rebecca Page, executive director of Mercer County Food Bank, said in a news release. “Without their continued and unwavering support, we simply would not be able to continue to meet this increased need for food assistance throughout Mercer County.”
More than 15,000 people, including 4,300 children, are food insecure, meaning they have limited or uncertain access to adequate food, the release states. Each month, 12,000 people rely on the services of the food bank and its network of member agencies for food assistance.
