Mercer Food Bank, Church Partner to Open Pantry in Hermitage
HERMITAGE, Pa. – Mercer County Food Bank and Gentle Shepherd Church of the Nazarene have teamed up to open the city’s first food bank-affiliated food pantry.
The food pantry at the church, 3480 Shenango Valley Fwy., will offer a variety of shelf-stable foods and produce, as well as assorted meat.
“The opening of this food pantry is part of the food bank’s strategic plan to provide access to food to neighbors in underserved areas of Mercer County,” said Rebecca Page, executive director of the Mercer County Food Bank. “For three years, we have been operating our Mobile Pantry program in Hermitage to help fill the needs of area residents, and the partnership with Gentle Shepherd will help better meet the needs of our neighbors experiencing food insecurity.”
The first food distribution will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Aug. 15, with a ribbon-cutting scheduled for 3 p.m.
