Mercy College Adds Evening/Weekend Program
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Mercy College of Ohio will expand its associate of science in nursing program and offer it in an evening/weekend format at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, the college announced Wednesday.
The program, which begins in August, will be in addition to the daytime format and other degree and certificate options now offered here and will enable those with commitments during the day to earn the degree in the evenings and weekends.
Mercy College representatives will be available to answer questions and discuss all the school’s nursing programs at an information session Saturday at 10 a.m. in Finnegan Auditorium at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
“We hope to meet the needs of those who are unable to attend classes during the day but want to become a nurse,” says Patricia McAllen, dean of Mercy College’s Youngstown location. “The evening/weekend program mirrors the Toledo campus program, which has been highly successful.”
Mercy College offers associate of science programs in nursing and health information technology; bachelor of science completion programs in health care administration, nursing and medical imaging; and credit certificates in medical coding and ophthalmic technology/eye care.
More than 85% of the graduates from Mercy College’s Youngstown location work in the Mahoning Valley area, helping to address the shortage of registered nurses in the region.
“St. E’s Youngstown has literally hired all of the graduates who want jobs here. We are happy that students can both get the education they want and easily find jobs close to home,” McAllen said.
