Mill Creek MetroParks Plans Road, Bridge Work
YOUNGSTOWN – Mill Creek MetroParks is seeking public comment for bridge and roadway improvement projects.
Plans call for resurfacing the pavement on Old Orchard Bridge on Chestnut Hill Drive, a quarter-mile north of Canfield Road. Other work will include waterproofing the bridge deck, improving the walkway and railings, and pointing the stone masonry.
The project is scheduled to begin in the summer and has an estimated cost of $200,000, 80% of which will be provided by the Ohio Department of Transportation. The work is expected to be finished in 60 days, and a detour will be marked during the construction period.
The road work will be a roughly one-mile section of East Newport Drive, from Shields Road to Kreider’s Entrance, and a shorter portion of Valley Drive, from East Park Drive to the Suspension Bridge. Plans call for planing and resurfacing the road and shoulder restoration.
The project is scheduled to begin in the summer with an estimated cost of $297,000, of which $123,316 will be provided by the state.
Mill Creek MetroParks is seeking comments from the public about the social, environmental and economic impacts of both projects, including archaeological, architectural and ecological concerns.
