Mill Creek’s East Park Hike & Bike Trail Extension Open for Use
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The second phase of the East Park Hike & Bike Trail at Mill Creek Park is now complete.
The completion of the construction project comes with a nearly 1,700-foot section of asphalt trail for use by pedestrians and bicyclists.
The completed project extends the existing trail from Lanterman’s Mill on Canfield Road around the perimeter of the former Idora Park property to the East Cohasset Hike & Bike Trail.
Construction of this section of trail completes an off-road network of pedestrian and bicycle trails stretching through Mill Creek Park from Boardman-Canfield Road to Old Furnace Road.
The network of trails connects Ford Nature Center, Lanterman’s Mill, East Newport Boat Launch and East Golf Hike & Bike Trail.
The Transportation Alternatives Program awarded grant funding for 80% of the project. This grant program from the Federal Highway Administration and Ohio Department of Transportation is administered locally by Eastgate Regional Council of Governments.
