16,000 Businesses File Start-Up Documents in Ohio Last Month

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Just over 16,000 new businesses filed start-up documents with the Ohio secretary of state in February, a 41% year-over-year increase.

The growth continues last year’s trend. In 2020, Ohioans created a record 171,073 new businesses, surpassing the previous record of 130,621, set in 2019.

“Despite the challenges of the pandemic, Ohio’s entrepreneurs continue to demonstrate great resilience and ingenuity,” said Secretary of State Frank LaRose in a statement. “They are taking risks to build better lives for themselves and their families, and are doing so in record numbers.”

In total, 16,025 entities filed incorporation paperwork with LaRose’s office last month.
