Movie Production Company Seeks $2M Loan from City

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – City Council’s housing and economic development committee will hear Thursday about a proposed $2 million float loan for a movie production company that is interested in filming in the city.

Gerard Butler Alan Siegel Entertainment approached the city about bringing its production here and has provided the city with an overview of the costs involved and the anticipated timeframe, said T. Sharon Woodberry, the city’s director of community planning and economic development.

The budget for the proposed film is $2.3 million.

One of the producers affiliated with the production company, actor Gerard Butler, has starred in films including “300” and “The Phantom of the Opera”, and voiced a character in the “How to Train Your Dragon” films.

The production company – also known as G-Base – is credited as a producer on “Olympus Has Fallen” and its sequel, “London Has Fallen” in which Butler also starred.

“Nothing has been finalized yet with this company choosing to locate here. They are just making their pitch tomorrow,” Woodberry cautioned. “They haven’t committed to us but we want to get them before Council so they can talk.”
