MS Gets Contract to Prepare Wick 6 Demo Documents

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Board of Control this morning approved a contract with MS Consultants Inc. to prepare bid documents for asbestos abatement and demolition of the Wick Six auto dealer showrooms on Wick Avenue.

The bid documents should be ready in 30 to 60 days, said Abigail Beniston, code enforcement and blight remediation superintendent.

Last year, Youngstown contracted with MS Consultants to perform Phase I and Phase II environmental assessments on the Wick Six properties.

The MS assessment determined no underground storage tanks were present but that portions of the buildings, including the shingles, contained asbestos. The city is still waiting for the results on some of the tests, Beniston said.

Cost for the demolition and abatement work is expected to run between $600,000 and $700,000, she said. The city will have a “better gauge” on how long the work will take once the plans are submitted, she added.
