MVHS Amazing History Race Set for Aug. 12

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Mahoning Valley Historical Society has announced the eighth installment of its classic scavenger-hunt-meets-road-trip event that tests participants’ knowledge of local history and geography.

The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 12, at Tyler History Center, 325 W. Federal St..

Teams will receive a set of clues directing them to six different historic sites spread throughout the Mahoning Valley. One “lifeline” call will be available to each team during the race.

Once all historic sites are discovered and photographed with a smartphone or digital camera, teams will proceed to the finish line at Arms Family Museum, 648 Wick Ave., near the YSU campus.

The first team to correctly identify all the sites with event staff wins the coveted Amazing History Race 8 trophy. A casual outdoor pizza party is planned for after the race for all participants.

The Amazing History Race is part of MVHS’s History-To-Go Series of fun and educational programs. This series will also include the Founders’ Day Open House at Arms Family Museum, from noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 11, and the annual Oak Hill Cemetery Walking Tour Oct. 22.
