MVMC Launches Campaign to Promote Skills Training

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – A partnership between the Mahoning Valley Manufacturers Coalition and local schools will promote training programs for in-demand jobs including welding, machining and industrial maintenance.

The campaign, which involves Eastern Gateway Community College, Columbiana County Career & Technical Center, Mahoning County Career & Technical Center and Trumbull Career & Technical Center, will include advertising, social media and more to attract students.

“Through our area education partners, Mahoning Valley residents can get the skills they need to start a successful long-term career in manufacturing that offers good pay and benefits with room to grow,” said coalition Executive Director Jessica Borza in a release. “Our local manufacturing sector continues to grow, and there are many opportunities ahead for people with the right skills.”

Over the next decade, about 3.5 million manufacturing jobs will need filled as baby boomers age out of the work force, she added. Average annual earnings for manufacturing employees in the Mahoning Valley are more than $68,000.

The campaign was developed with assistance from JobsOhio and the Ohio Manufacturers’ Association. For more information, visit MakingOhio.com/mvmc.
