National Authority Renews CFMV Accreditation
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — The Community Foundations National Standards Board has again accredited the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, CFMV announced today.
The Community Foundations National Standards Board is a national authority that reviews community foundations for operational excellence, according to the news release. CFMV is the only community foundation in the Mahoning Valley with national standards accreditation.
“This is good news for us and the donors who rely on us to manage their funds for the good of the Mahoning Valley,” said Shari Harrell, CFMV president. “It provides third-party confirmation from the definitive authority that we’re following the best practices for a community foundation.”
The standards board reviewed the CFMV last year in a process that covers foundation spending, record-keeping, board structure, grant-making decisions and virtually every aspect of operations, Harrell noted. The CFMV has been accredited since 2009, and the new accreditation will last through late 2019.
The renewed accreditation allows the CFMV to continue to use the National Standards seal. The seal “demonstrates your foundation’s commitment to accountability, excellence and service,” according to the official notification letter the CFMV received from Randy Royster, president of the CF National Standards Board, and Lara Kalwinski, director of national standards.
“It affirms that your foundation’s management aligns with nationally recognized effective practices,” the letter stated. “Your accreditation also allows you to distinguish your foundation from other community foundations and philanthropic organizations that have not met these rigorous standards.”
The accreditation provides a reference point for Mahoning Valley philanthropic families and organizations seeking to maximize the impact of their funds, said Shelley Taylor Odille, president of the CFMV board of directors and president of Paige & Byrnes Insurance.
“This accreditation distinguishes us,” Taylor Odille said. “It enhances our credibility and brings confidence to donors and professional advisers who are looking for a qualified partner.”
