National Political Reporter to Discuss Election Coverage Challenges
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Political reporter Mark Niquette of Bloomberg News will highlight the challenges journalists face as they cover 21st-century elections when he addresses a Youngstown Press Club gathering May 23.
Niquette, of Columbus, will speak on “An Insider’s Look at Covering Elections” at 5:30 p.m. at the V2 Wine Bar and Trattoria, 100 W. Federal St.
Niquette, who has been at Bloomberg News since 2011, has been covering politics and government on the local, state and national levels for more than 30 years. He got his start at The Vindicator, where he worked for 10 years before moving on to The Akron Beacon Journal and The Columbus Dispatch.
Niquette has covered every Democratic and Republican national convention since 2008. He was on the presidential campaign trail with Hillary Clinton in 2016 and covered former President Donald Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign.
The conversation with Niquette will include current and future trends that are transforming political campaigns, including changes in technology and advertising and the impact of social media and artificial intelligence. Other topics will include the evolution of polling, challenges to election integrity and how to cover campaigns that have gone beyond hyperbole to fundamental disagreement about objective reality.
