Nativio, Reed Author Images of America Book on Warren

WARREN, Ohio – Josh Nativio and Meghan Reed will publish a new book as part of the Images of America series documenting the history of Warren .

Nativio and Reed have spent more than a year compiling historic images from collections throughout the city. The book, published by Arcadia Publishing, will be released Aug. 12.

“We felt that a modern history of Warren was needed in the community,” said Reed, director of the Trumbull County Historical Society, in a statement. “The Images of America books are fun, engaging and accessible to both academic research and local history enthusiasts who want to learn more about their community.”

More than 193 images of Warren are organized within the book’s five chapters: Governance, Churches and Schools; Industry; Recreation, Carousing and Dining; Shopping and Retail; Neighborhoods and Homes. Chapter introductions and photograph captions outline the history of Warren through time.

Among the businesses featured in ‘Warren’ is the Horseshoe Bar in downtown.

Nativio is also a local collector who manages multiple social media channels promoting the history of Warren. He saw a need to showcase the local businesses many people talk about, but many no longer remember.

“Warren lost so many storefronts within such a short time,” he said. “All of those stories will be lost if we don’t do something to save them. Those memories are important.”

The book will be sold for $21.99. Advanced copies, available through the history society, are $18. A discounted rate for resale is available by request to local distributors. Proceeds will support the Trumbull County Historical Society.

“It is impossible to think about what our identity is as a community if we don’t understand why our residents are who they are today,” Reed said. “It is my hope that people will flip through this book and say, ‘Wow, Warren was innovative and creative and on the cutting edge of industry and progress.’”
