Navigators Excerpt: Trades Represented in Fire Service
This is an excerpt from the Brain Gain Navigators series.
In this excerpt, John Lightly, fire program instructor and a Youngstown Fire Department battalion chief says students in the MCCTC fire training program should show an aptitude for math and science, particularly biology and anatomy. On the fire-fighting side of the program, the training gets heavily into the trades, such as carpentry, electrical work and welding.
“There’s a lot of tradesmen represented in the fire service, so going through a career and technical college and getting some type of credential that way is a great place to start,” Lightly says.
