Need for Nurses in Ohio Rises to Nearly 21,000 Job Postings

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Job postings for registered nurses in Ohio increased by more than 6,000 since the last reporting period by Ohio Means Jobs.

From Oct. 14 to Nov. 13, there were 20,684 job postings for registered nurses in the Buckeye State. That’s up from 14,254 in the previous reporting period.

A search for registered nurse positions strictly in the Youngstown area at OhioMeansJobs.com found 128 job openings. Some of the positions advertise sign-on bonuses ranging from $7,500 to $15,000.

Of job postings for registered nurses within a 20-mile radius of Youngstown, 80 were at Mercy Health locations. Another 18 were for Steward Health Care System.

Total job postings for the reporting period were 320,945, up from 315,216 in the previous reporting period. Bon Secours Health System, the parent of Mercy, had the ninth most overall job postings in the state with 3,623. Deloitte topped all other employers with 7,135 postings.

Heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers had the second most job ads with 15,096, with first-line supervisors of retail sales workers (12,679), retail salespersons (9,629) and software developers, applications (7,920) rounding out the top five.

Of the total posted jobs, 26.3% list a middle income salary range of $30,000 to $49,000. Upper middle income jobs ($50,000 to $79,000) comprise 25.8% of posted jobs. Entry level jobs (less than $30,000) make up 16.6% of postings, high-income jobs ($80,000 to $99,000) 11.2% and six-figure jobs 20.1%.

Most jobs posted (42.4%) require a high school diploma or GED, compared to 38.9% that require a bachelor’s degree, 13.4% require an associate degree, 2.7% a master’s degree and 2.7% a doctoral degree.

In the 18-county northeastern Ohio region, which includes Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties, registered nurses led job postings with 7,469, with first-line supervisors of retail sales workers (5,085), heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers (4,356), retail salespersons (3,857) and customer service representatives (2,376) rounding out the top five.

The region reported a total of 107,918 job postings, which is up 2,412 from the previous reporting period and up 27,280 postings year-over-year. Click here for the full northeastern Ohio report.
