New, Used Auto Sales Drop Slightly in Valley
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Combined sales of new and used cars in the Mahoning Valley dropped 1.4% last month, the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio reported Wednesday, with 5,914 vehicles leaving showrooms in May.
Sales of new cars and trucks were down 5.2% compared to May 2014, with 2,482 sold last month in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties last month.
Leading sales for new vehicles is the Chevrolet Equinox, with 242 sold in the three counties, double the number sold in May 2014. Ranking second was the Chevy Silverado with 105, four fewer than the same period last year.
Rounding out the top five were the Lordstown-built Chevy Cruze with 92 sold – a 58% decrease from last May – the Ford Escape with 73 sold and the Ford Focus at 61.
The top five used-cars: the Ford F-150 pickup truck recorded 99 sales; Chevy Impala, 95; Chevrolet Silverado, 94; Chevrolet Malibu, 86; and Cruze, 76. All but the Malibu enjoyed a greater number of sales than in May 2014.
Greenwood Chevrolet, Austintown, sold the most vehicles with 292, a 7.6% drop from last year. The rest of the top five were Taylor Kia in Boardman with 215, five fewer than May 2014; Sweeney Chevrolet in Boardman with 212; while Stadium GM in Salem and Fairway Ford in Canfield both sold 197 vehicles.
