New Vehicle Sales Improve Among Mahoning Valley Buyers

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Sales of new cars and trucks to residents of Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties improved in August compared with the same period a year ago, according to the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association.

The dealers report said showrooms sold a total of 2,319 new vehicles to Mahoning Valley customers in August, compared with 2,120 sold in August 2022, an improvement of 9.3%.

It’s also a 15% improvement from new vehicle sales the previous month, data show. In July, local buyers scooped up 2,008 new cars and trucks.

Boardman Subaru sold the most new vehicles in August with 139, the dealers report shows.  #1 Cochran Chevrolet and Ken Ganley Kia of Boardman each sold 123 new vehicles. Greenwood Chevrolet reported 116 sales of new cars and trucks, Fred Martin Ford sold 106 new units, while Stadium Chevrolet Buick GMC and Cadillac reported 96 new vehicle sales.

Meanwhile, sales of used vehicles tumbled during the month, the report shows.

Dealers sold 2,225 used vehicles in August, compared with 2,486 sold a year ago, a 10% decline, the report shows.

Combined sales of new and used vehicles to tri-county residents were also down slightly – 1.4% – as dealers reported selling a total of 4,617 units in August versus sales of 4,686 vehicles during the same month in 2022.
