Update: New Vehicle Sales in Mahoning Valley Increase in April

[EDITOR’S NOTE: This story has been updated to include sales from #1 Cochran, which were not included in the original dealers’ report.]

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – New vehicle sales to residents of Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties increased in April compared with the same period a year ago, according to the latest report from the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association.

The organization reports that auto dealers sold 2,071 new cars and trucks last month, compared with 1,881 in April 2022, an increase of 10%. An earlier version of this story was based on an initial version of the dealers’ report that excluded vehicle sales from #1 Cochran’s Chevrolet and Buick GMC, formerly Sweeney, in Boardman. Those sales have been added to reflect more accurate numbers.

#1 Cochran Chevrolet, formerly Sweeney Chevrolet, reported the highest new vehicle sales in April with 116, the report said.

Fred Martin Ford reported the second highest new models sold with 106, the dealers’ report shows. Greenwood Chevrolet, Austintown, reported 102 sold; Ken Ganley Kia of Boardman and #1 Cochran Buick GMC registered the fourth highest sales with 94; Boardman Subaru reported 89 new vehicle sales; and Toyota of Boardman and Stadium Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac in Salem each sold 79 new vehicles.

Sales of used vehicles, however, were down precipitously compared with April 2022, the report shows.

Dealers sold 1,744 used cars and trucks to area residents in April, compared with 2,070 the same period last year – a decline of 15.7%, the report said.

Combined sales of new and used vehicles were down 2.6% during April compared with a year earlier.
