New Vehicle Sales in Valley Improve Year-Over-Year in 2023

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Sales of new cars and trucks to residents of Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties improved during 2023 when compared with the previous year, according to data provided by the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association.

Overall sales of new vehicles improved 7.5% last year when compared with new sales in 2022, data show, as inventories returned to healthier levels.

According to the dealers association, local buyers purchased 24,982 new cars and trucks in 2023, compared with 23,223 in 2022.

Boardman Subaru recorded the most retail sales for 2023 with 1,477, followed by #1 Cochran Chevrolet with 1,349 new vehicle sales. Ken Ganley Kia sold 1,323 new cars and trucks; Greenwood Chevrolet recorded 1,196 new vehicle sales; and Fred Martin Ford sold 1,157 new units.

New retail auto sales to tri-county residents also improved slightly during the quarter ended Dec. 31, the report shows. 

Dealers sold 1,840 new vehicles combined during the fourth quarter in 2023, compared with 1,784 sold during the fourth quarter in 2022, an improvement of 3.1%, data show.

Boardman Subaru sold the most new vehicles during the quarter with 124, while #1 Cochran Chevrolet sold the second most with 102, the report shows. Stadium Buick registered the third-best sales with 90; Greenwood Chevrolet sold 86 new vehicles; and Fred Martin Ford sold 79 new units during the fourth quarter.

However, local sales of used vehicles fell during the quarter and the year, the report said.

In 2023, dealers sold a total of 22,500 used vehicles in 2023, compared with 25,642 used cars and trucks in 2022, a decline of 12.2%. 

Sales of used vehicles during the fourth quarter of 2023 stood at 1,617, compared with 1,828 during the same period in 2022, a drop of 11.5%.
