New Vehicle Sales Off to Strong Start in 2024

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Sales of new cars and trucks to residents of Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties in January easily outpaced year-ago numbers, signaling a strong start to 2024, according to the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association.

The organization’s monthly report shows that dealers sold 2,398 new vehicles to area residents last month, compared with 1,861 sold during the same period in 2023, a leap of nearly 29%.

Toyota of Boardman and Boardman Subaru reported the highest volume of new vehicle sales in January with 145, the report shows. #1 Cochran Chevrolet in Boardman sold the second highest with 127 new cars and trucks; Greenwood Chevrolet reported 106 new vehicles sold; #1 Cochran Honda Boardman reported the fourth-best volume sales with 105; while Fred Martin Ford said it sold 98 new vehicles during the month.

Used vehicle sales also improved in January compared with the same month in 2023, the dealers’ report shows.

Sales of used vehicles to area residents stood at 2,046 units, compared with 1,896 used cars and trucks sold in January 2023, the report said, an improvement of 8%. 

Combined sales of new and used vehicles – including dealers from outside the three-county area – increased 19.6%. Dealers report they sold a total of 4,579 new and used units in January, compared with 3,826 sold a year earlier.
