New Vehicle Sales to Valley Buyers Bump Upward in October

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Residents of Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties purchased slightly more new vehicles during October compared to the same month last year, a new report shows.

The Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers Association reports that the region’s dealers sold 1,856 new cars and trucks to Mahoning Valley customers last month, up from 1,841 in October 2021, an increase of 0.81%.

Although volumes are still low compared to previous years, the data represent the first year-over-year increase in new vehicle sales among Mahoning Valley buyers during 2022, according to the report.

Sweeney Chevrolet, Boardman, sold the most new vehicles with 114, the report shows. Boardman Subaru posted second-best volumes with 112 sold, Taylor Kia of Boardman moved 102 new vehicles off its showroom, Greenwood Chevrolet, Austintown, reported 96 new vehicle sales, while Fred Martin Ford, Austintown, said it sold 87 new cars and trucks.

Sales of used cars and trucks to Valley customers, the report added, were off 6.5% compared to October 2021. Dealers report selling 2,000 used vehicles last month versus 2,140 units sold a year ago.
Overall sales of new and used vehicles to Valley customers were down last month compared to sales a year ago, the report shows.

Dealers say they sold a combined 3,941 new and used vehicles in October 2022 compared to 4,038 sold during the same month last year, a drop of 2.4%.
